About Us

With high quality furnishings, rooms of varied styles and prices, and superb location (a few minutes walking distance to the city, good cafes and bars, the iconic Len Lye centre – New Zealand first example of Destination Architecture linked to contemporary art, the famed Taranaki coastal walk, and the local aquatic centre), Arcadia provides a warm, welcoming environment for singles, couples, families, groups looking for quality bed and breakfast or backpacker accommodation.

Glen and Kerry look forward to welcoming you to enjoy a stay in our wide range of rooms.

The grand old 1904 building that is Arcadia has an undeniable, turn-of-the-last-century charm and high-society quality with its high ceilings and use of varnished wood, along with a little bit of its own mystery.
For the first 47 years it was a stately home, originally for a solicitor, Thomas Weston, a retired MP from the West Coast (not, as is often thought, the local newspaper proprietor, Henry Weston, a New Plymouth local who may or may not have been related).
Since the 1950s it has been a boutique accommodation destination (with a slight diversion in the 1980s into a rest home business).
